Best Homemade Salsa Recipe
Everyone knows that the best salsa is made with fresh tomatoes. I thought about using canned tomatoes to cut back on the labor but using fresh tomatoes makes a world of difference! It helps cut down the preservatives that are added to can foods.
This is hands down I was overly excited to make this salsa recipe, and I don’t know that I’ll ever need another one. I wouldn't say that this is a fun fact about Porshe’. However I have a food intolerance to onions. I most certainly cannot consume anything with onions or I will be graced with an odd headache. In the past everyone just assumed that I don’t like the taste of onions but it actually made me feel terrible within a matter of minutes after eating them. This recipe is the perfect ratio and blend of everything.
It doesn’t have onions but its filled with enough garlic and spicy for my taste, it doesn’t tasting like it came from a can and it has the perfect brightness with the fresh lime. Then it has a classic Mexican flavor with the cilantro and hint of cumin.
I woulnt’t add salt or sugar to this salsa, however you can add enough for your liking.
Fresh Salsa Ingredients
Fresh grape tomatoes – use the nice and red ones, avoid anything soft.
Fresh Vine tomatoes – I like to use this for thickness in addition to grape tomatoes because it gives the salsa a better consistency.
Fresh cilantro – cilantro adds key flavor, don’t omit this!
Jalapeno – this adds a nice kick.
Bell pepper– adds more flavor.
Garlic – it may seem small but garlic packs a flavorful punch. Only use fresh garlic here for best flavor.
Lime – this really brightens up the salsa.
Cumin – this is a nice addition if you have it on hand.
Sugar – just a touch balances out the acidity of the tomatoes and lime.
Salt and pepper – the salsa would taste flat without the salt and the pepper adds a light kick.
What if I Don’t Own a Food Processor?
Its fine I currently don’t have a food processor. I simply hand chopped all the ingredients. I did use a Nutribullet for the grape tomatoes. The are really tiny so if can get unsafe while cutting. After you can finely chop up the vegetables by hand then stir everything together in a bowl.
Tips for the Best Salsa
Use freshest ingredients.
Dont puree the salsa, some texture is a good thing here.
Let the homemade salsa chill first for an even tastier, more refreshing salsa. I just always seem to like it better the second day.
