Bohemian Faux Locs
If you’ve ever found yourself staring dreamily at a picture of Lisa Bonet and her iconic waist-length dreads (just me?), then you’ve probably already gone down the TikTok rabbit hole in search of getting that look. I will be honest, I had major commitment issues when booking my appointment. There were so many variations of this hairstyle it drove me crazy.
First, to ease the anxiety, I sent photos of what I wanted to my hair stylist. She took a lot of stress away. She sent me the direct links of hair extensions that best fit the descriptions that I wanted. I’ll drop the links below. I was able to choose the best that I thought fit me. It was also super affordable. I had to pick up springy afro twist pack hair length 16 inches. I believe I got 5 packs of hair for $39.99 at the length of 26 inches. Due to my height, this length touches the top of my bum, which is perfect.
I was super excited. Because my schedule is forever hectic I found myself shampooing, conditioning, and giving my hair a blowout around 12:00 am. It was not difficult to wash my hair so I knew that was the issue. It’s the blow-drying part that took the longest. I was able to finish the job with tired arms in under an hour and 30 minutes.
I brought my laptop and snacks on the day of my hair appointment. Braid appointments can usually last up to 6-8 hours. I expected this session to only be around 4-5 hours. Due to the installation method, which is wrapped crochet individuals.
I was super excited to start putting my hair in different styles. The first thing you must do is lay the edges. I will link the tool and product I highly used below. However typically when getting braids your hairstyle can feel super tight for a couple of days. In five days I was able to put my hair into a ponytail. After a couple more days I was able to put It in a high bun.
Being a chiropractor I was worried about the neck pain that comes with heavy hairstyles. Braids in particular can cause neck pain due to their density. This was not the case. The hairstyle is super lightweight even tho it looks full and thick.
If I can give some advice about the nature of this hairstyle is to not use synthetic hair. The leave-out strains of hair can become nappy pretty quickly. I found myself trying to untangle the strains every day to preserve the hairstyle but the naps overpowered me.
Luckily because my hair has the loc’d look it blended pretty well. I would suggest once the curly parts disappear add jewels and accessories. Before heading to Puerto Rico, I added sea shells to my hair. I looked on TikTok to find an easy approach to installing them. I used the rubber band method. I loved that look. Eventually, the shells will fall out leaving some behind and making it look even better. Once my shells were halfway gone I added some golden rings and hearts to my hair. It was so trendy
The shelf life of this hairstyle has lasted since early February and it is now April 2. It could last longer but I will be taking this down and switching up my look again. I TRULY MISS MY CURLS. I’ve heard horror stories about the removal process but I can confirm unless I experienced it.
Wish me LUCK 🍀
Until we meet again I can’t wait to pick my next hairstyle.
